The Alliance Française de Gainesville is currently accepting applications for

Children’s Language Program Internship.  

 

Job Title: Children’s Language Program Internship

 

Description:  This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of teaching the French language while working for a nonprofit organization. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, the intern will receive hands-on experience working with children as they participate in the language and cultural experience.  This internship is ideal for someone who has studied French and who is interested in early childhood education.

 

 

Start Date: February 1, 2015 or June 1, 2015. Requires 1-3 month commitment.

Type: Part-time or full-time, 4 - 28 hours per week depending on season

 

Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer internship. One free French course after 20 hours of volunteering. Will work with intern to provide academic credit if applicable.

 

The mission of the Alliance Française de Gainesville is to promote the French language and French-speaking cultures in our community through educational programs, cultural events and media resources.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The intern will assist the teacher with all aspects of the classroom experience

  • Classes vary from approximately 5 to 12 children, ages 5-8, 9-12, 13-17. 

  • The intern also will assist with lunch and snacks to the children

  • The intern will assist in the learning process to help students learn French

  • The intern will also assist in cultural activities and creative activities

  • Most duties take place in classroom or summer camp environment

 

  Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Degree required and at least one semester of college

  • Intermediate College French or higher.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and proof reading skills. Detail oriented.

  • Willingness to learn and work with children

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of The Alliance Française an interest in French culture, and the French Language

  • One recommendation letter from a former or current college or university French Professor

  • Must know CPR and general first aid knowledge

Job Title: Communications Internship

 

Description: The Alliance Française seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist in marketing, communications and public relations efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working for a nonprofit organization. The Communications Intern works directly with the President and Vice President. 

 

Start Date: January 3, 2015. Requires 3-6 month commitment.

Type: Part-time or full-time, 5 - 10 hours per week

 

Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer internship. One free French course after 33 hours of volunteering. Will work with intern to provide academic credit if applicable.

 

The mission of the Alliance Française de Gainesville is to promote the French language and French-speaking cultures in our community through educational programs, cultural events and media resources.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain AFG’s social media presence, including scheduling Facebook updates

  • Collecting and editing news stories for use in Newsletter, and on Facebook

  • Assist in planning, writing and sending quarterly Newsletter

  • Draft content for newsletter, press releases and media alerts

  • Draft content for news page online

  • Send out press releases to local newspapers and radio stations

  • Print and mail copies of Newsletter to members who do not use email

  • Design and draft e-vites and other marketing material for events hosted by AFG

  • Assist with publishing email blasts

  • Work with Vice President to update the AFG website when needed

  • Collaborating with Board on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

  • Print and distribute membership cards and name badges

  • Other tasks as needed

 

  Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Intermediate French or higher.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and proof reading skills. Detail oriented.

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts as well as AFG members and AFG Board

  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills

  • Flexible and proactive in taking on assignments and responsibilities, and willingness to learn

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of The Alliance Française an interest in French culture, and the French Language
